The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is pleased to share the news Kiewit Infrastructure Co., a local infrastructure development company, has been officially recognized by the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) for efforts on their recent airport taxiway project. The prestigious Quality in Construction (QIC) Award has been awarded to Kiewit Infrastructure Co. for their exceptional work on the Taxiway Bravo Rehabilitation, specifically in the Airport paving category for the second phase of the project.

"This award stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work demonstrated by our partners at Kiewit. Their commitment to enhancing our airfield is greatly appreciated,” said Greg Phillips, the Director of Aviation for COS.

The overall project included pavement rehabilitation to improve pavement condition; installation of taxiway lighting; installation of taxiway shoulders; and reconfiguration of markings to meet current FAA design standards regarding direct apron-to-runway access from the Peterson Space Force Base ramp/apron. Enhancing access to the Peterson apron is crucial for sustained mission success, and COS takes pride in playing a vital role in supporting these missions.

“The Quality in Construction Award highlights the dedication and expertise of the team and we’re honored to have our efforts recognized by the National Asphalt Pavement Association,” said Kiewit Project Manager Ryan Konen. “We’re proud to be part of Colorado Springs Airport’s growth and success. This award underscores our commitment to quality and innovation in airport infrastructure.”

In addition, water quality improvements were made to facilitate better drainage of the pavement areas. The project kicked off in June 2023 and was completed in November 2023.
