The City of Colorado Springs will begin work May 13 to improve the flow of traffic at the South Nevada Avenue and Interstate 25 Interchange.
A major intersection in the community, the Interstate 25 Ramps: South Nevada and South Tejon Street Corridor Improvements project will improve the flow of traffic off the southbound I-25 exit and increase queuing capacity for traffic from South Nevada Avenue to northbound I-25.
The initial construction traffic impacts will restrict South Nevada Avenue to two lanes in each direction between Brookside Street and I-25. The project is expected to take nine months to complete.
Along with the construction of a pedestrian bridge over Cheyenne Creek, the project will improve pedestrian access by updating the existing facilities to meet American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and widen some of the existing facilities to better accommodate multi-use transportation modes. There will also be signal upgrades at four intersections and improved signage and wayfinding.
This is a voter-approved, Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) A-list project. Total project cost is $9.1 million.
