On June 14, 2020, at approximately 10:45 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a crash at the intersection of N. Nevada Ave. and E. Platte Ave. involving a motorcycle and a sedan. The driver of the motorcycle was seriously hurt and the passenger of the motorcycle, Ms. Jacqueline Robison of Colorado Springs, died as a result of this crash.

An investigation into this crash conducted by Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team determined the motorcycle was traveling southbound on N. Nevada Ave. when it attempted to cross the intersection with E. Platte Ave on a green light. The motorcycle was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by 23-year-old Jacob D. Miller of Colorado Springs. Mr. Miller was found to have run a red light and was traveling at an excessive speed. Mr. Miller was not injured in this crash.

Based on these investigative findings, on August 6, 2020, Mr. Miller was arrested for Vehicular Homicide and booked into the El Paso County Jail on this charge.

On Sunday, June 14, 2020, at approximately 10:45 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a traffic crash at the intersection of N. Nevada Ave. and E. Platte Ave. Upon arrival on scene, officers determined the crash involved a Toyota sedan and a motorcycle. It was also determined the rider and passenger of the motorcycle were both suffering from serious injuries as a result of this crash. First aid was provided by members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department on scene and both parties were rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Due to the nature of the incident, the Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The investigation revealed the Toyota sedan was traveling eastbound on E. Platte Ave. when it ran a red light at N. Nevada Ave., striking the motorcycle which was traveling through the intersection southbound on a green light. The driver of the Toyota remained on scene. Impairment on the behalf of either driver is not suspected at this time. Both the occupants of the motorcycle were wearing motorcycle helmets at the time of the crash. Despite the crash occurring within the intersection of N. Nevada Ave. and E. Platte Ave., the General Palmer statue was not a factor.

On June 25, 2020, the passenger of the motorcycle, 45-year-old Jacqueline Robison of Colorado Springs, passed away as a result of the injuries she suffered in this crash. The investigation into this crash is continuing and charges have yet to be filed in this matter.

Ms. Robison is the 17th traffic crash fatality in Colorado Springs in 2020 and the 6th motorcycle related fatality. She is also the 8th traffic fatality thus far during the month of June. At this time in 2019, there were 21 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
