Mill Street Neighborhood Planning Process Underway

City Seeks Citizen Input and to guide future of historic Neighborhood

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mill Street community has been working on a planning process to envision the future of the neighborhood located immediately south of downtown Colorado Springs. The effort is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and is estimated to be completed by Spring 2018. The City of Colorado Springs Community Development Division is engaging area residents, property and business owners to identify goals, priorities and interests in the future of this historic neighborhood.

The Mill Street neighborhood has a long history of providing housing and job opportunities as a center-city working class community. With the downtown core redeveloping and the South Tejon Street commercial corridor undergoing major changes, Mill Street is subject to climbing rents and gentrification.

Through an inclusive and consensus-building process, the neighborhood plan will set the stage for the future of the Mill Street community to be a thriving, dynamic place that celebrates its diversity and historic past. The neighborhood plan seeks to:

  • Cultivate Mill Street character
  • Enhance quality of life for residents
  • Re-connect Mill Street people and places
  • Create a resilient future
